Introduction Blog:

Hello, my name is Rojina Ghale Gurung. I am originally from Nepal and I moved to the United States four years ago. I am currently a junior in NC State University as a transfer student  majoring in Fashion and Textile Management with a concentration in Brand Management and Marketing. My future goal is to pursue entrepreneurship in some capacity. I would like to build my own brand and start a business of my own. My relationship with writing is “okay”. I have always struggled with writing and expressing my thoughts through words have always been a difficult task. English is one of my weaknesses and it has always been a challenge to read and write in English comprehensively. One main reason I believe for my hardship to master the English language is because it is my second language. I only write when I have to do the assignments for college or for work which is why I don’t feel so confident in my writing and reading. But I hope with this class I get to learn more on how to write in a professional manner and boost my confidence in writing.

My professional experience so far has been working part time jobs in retail stores such as Dillards and Target as a sales associate. Even though it was a mere part time employment, the experience itself was vital where I was able to learn in and out of  retail store operations. It was a great experience interacting with people and working as a team for a common goal. I feel my creativity is well expressed via other skills and mediums such as sketching, coloring, and making diy items. One of my current projects is creating new handmade products for my little etsy shop which I have recently started. Through this project, I intend to showcase my creativity while providing service as a novice entrepreneur. I plan to build on this project in the future in a step by step process. It is these little freelance projects where I feel myself the most comfortable and happy.

My MBTI type is INTJ (Introvert, Intuitive, Thinking and Judging). The test itself was very fun and interesting to take and I feel like it helped me better understand my personality which I hadn’t given much thought before. Some of the aspects were pretty spot on like being an introvert, to have a strategic plan, procrastination, feeling isolated and misunderstood often. There are other aspects to my personality which I did not particularly think this test addressed. Overall, it was a good survey-like activity to participate in. My personal goal for the course is to improve my writing skill and learn much as I can to enhance my knowledge in professional writing. Although I do not plan to pursue a career in writing, I strongly believe a good writer with an adequate writing skill is always admired by people no matter what field you work on. I hope to be able to gain valuable experience in this course so that I can write in a more professional manner which would be an immense help for my future career.

  1. Hey Rojina, first and foremost, I wanted to say that I really enjoyed your post. I find it really fascinating that you’re originally from Nepal and moved to the United States only four years ago. I couldn’t imagine moving to Nepal today, and in four years taking college-level classes in Nepali, so my hats off to you! I’m a junior also at State, but I am in the Poole College of Management. That being said, I have numerous friends in Fashion Textile Management and who have graduated from it. My freshman year I thought about switching from business to fashion textile management because I’ve always had a passion for clothing and always wanted to start my own brand eventually. I too hope that this class will increase my writing skills and make me more confident in my own writing. I really how you mentioned you do creative, DIY projects because I do the same. I’ll either paint on a canvas, try to sew a shirt, or build something. I’m always trying to find creative tasks to engulf myself in. My goal one day is to also go out on my own entrepreneurial venture and have a successful business that I started from the ground up. For my Myers-Briggs Personality Test, I also had the traits intuitive and judging. Judging definitely pertains to me as well, I have a lot of structure in my life and almost plan my days out the day before, telling myself what work I am going to complete the next day. Overall, it was a pleasuring learning about you and I appreciate you sharing that information with us!
